1921 Greyhound

John F. Fry -- Newalla, OH

 1921 Greyhound Steam Tractor
1921 18 Horsepower Greyhound, engine number 21131. Banning Manufacturing Co of Toledo Ohio

This engine has spent it's entire life in one family. John's grandfather ,Frank Fry, bought it new in 1921 to power a threshing machine and sawmill. It was used in the Richland and Crawford County area of North Central Ohio until 1945. Francis Fry, John's uncle, acquired it from Frank's estate in the early fifties.

John Fry bought it from Francis's estate in 1990. It had not operated since retiring in 1945. It was completely restored in 1993 by John and his son. It has been displayed regularly at the Oklahoma Steam Threshers Show at Pawnee Oklahoma. It has powered threshers, sawmill Prony brake and the Baker fan.

The early pictures were taken on the Henry Biglin farm in Bethlehem, Ohio in 1937. The engine is powering a 1933 Nichols & Shepard, Red River Special separator.

Color picture is the same rig threshing on the John Fry farm in 1995
